Online first aid courses

New Mexico's state plan adopts the federal OSHA rule (29 CFR 1910.151(b)): no fixed first-aider-to-worker ratio, but where no clinic or hospital is in near proximity the employer must ensure adequately trained first-aiders with supplies readily available. OSHA guidance expects at least one trained responder per shift, with emergency care reachable within 3-4 minutes at high-hazard sites.

New Mexico requires all educators, staff and management in direct contact with children to be certified in first aid and CPR with a pediatric component under 8.16.2 NMAC, overseen by the Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD). New staff have three months (within 90 days) from hire to certify, training must include a hands-on component, and certification renews every 2 years.

The New Mexico Board of Nursing requires registered nurses to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education every two-year cycle, with a recognized national specialty certification accepted in lieu of the hours. Provider-accredited advanced resuscitation courses (e.g., ACLS) can count toward the hours, while basic BLS may not always qualify on its own.

In New Mexico, nursing homes, assisted-living facilities and home-health agencies rely on aides certified in CPR and first aid, and a current BLS for healthcare providers (CPR) certification is a prerequisite to the certified nurse-aide (CNA) programs that staff these settings. A recognized, up-to-date first-aid and CPR certificate meets the requirement and is renewed periodically.

Foster and adoptive home licensure in New Mexico is handled by the Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD), and CPR/first-aid training for foster families is provided and expected as part of becoming licensed. The certification is valid for two years and must be kept current from a recognized organization.

Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in New Mexico, providing evidence-based certification valid for 2 years. For workplace first aid, OHSB follows the federal framework and accepts blended training (online coursework plus an in-person hands-on skills demonstration); the strict 'no online without hands-on' rule applies to childcare via ECECD, not the workplace.
