In health care, being ready to respond protects patients and the public. In New Mexico, registered nurses maintain their competence through continuing education, while nurse aides must hold a healthcare-provider–level CPR/BLS certification before they even begin their program. Here is what applies to your role — and how recognized, up-to-date, documented training meets it.

The New Mexico Board of Nursing sets the terms under which registered nurses renew their licence and expects them to keep their competence current. New Mexico RNs must complete 30 contact hours of continuing education every two-year cycle, with a recognized national specialty certification accepted in lieu of the hours.
Under the state's nursing rules, continuing education must be relevant to practice, and licensees attest to completion at renewal. Basic Life Support is, in practice, an employer and hospital requirement for many clinical roles rather than a standalone licence condition — but maintaining resuscitation skills remains part of the profession's duty to be ready to respond.
New Mexico registered nurses must complete 30 contact hours per two-year cycle, or hold a recognized national certification in lieu of the hours. Provider-accredited advanced resuscitation courses can count toward the hours, while basic BLS may not always qualify on its own.

For support staff, New Mexico requires a current healthcare-provider–level BLS/CPR certification as a prerequisite to Certified Nurse Aide programs, which qualify aides for nursing homes, assisted living and home health. This is a standalone certificate, obtained in addition to the aide credential, that a recognized course satisfies and that must be renewed.
